Description
The Fiat L6/40 light tank was widely used by the Italian Regio Esercito during the Second World War. Designed in the late 1930s to perform advanced reconnaissance and infantry support tasks, it had a crew of two: the driver and the commander, who also operated the cannon. Entering service in 1941, it had good speed and could be used against light vehicles and lightly protected targets, while it was ineffective against more heavily armoured vehicles. The main armament of the L6 consisted of a 20 mm Breda 20/65 Mod. 1935 cannon mounted in the turret and an 8 mm Breda 38 coaxial machine gun. The L6/40 light tank was used on several fronts, including North Africa, the Balkans, and the Eastern Front.
