A Reliable Battle Hound During WWII in 1941, based on the US Army Ordnance request for a new armored reconnaissance vehicle, General Motors Chevrolet answered the call with its 4x4 armored car the Staghound Mk.I. The Staghound was armed with a 37mm gun placed on its turret having 32mm thick armor, and as an armored car it possessed a great defensive ability. In addition, it was powered by two 97hp water-cooled gasoline engines producing a top speed of 88.5km/h. Later the American Army began using the M8 Greyhound with British and Commonwealth forces continued to use the Staghound. The Staghound first saw action at the Italian front in 1943, and was used in various countries in patrolling and reconnaissance duties to the end of the war. |
