Description
Soviet engineers created the IS-2 heavy tank in late 1943. Its development was based on the experiences in tank combat of the previous years of war. The IS-2 was equipped with a powerful 122mm gun, paired with strong armour and good manoeuvrability. Throughout its production, the tank was constantly modernised. The vehicles produced in the period from December 1944 to February 1945 received a gun locking device on the rear and smoke grenade mounts. In the final stages of the war, the IS-2 was successfully used against enemy heavy tanks, during assaults on cities and fortified positions.
