The main ambulance of the US Army in World War II was the WC-54, based on the WC-Series, with a payload of 3/4 tonnes. The chassis had an extended wheelbase and an enclosed body with a capacity to carry 4 to 7 wounded, plus a medic and driver. In the period from 1942 to 1944, 29,500 vehicles of this type were produced. The WC-54 was used in the US Army until 1953 and the end of the Korean War. In many armies of the allied countries, the WC-54 remained in service until the 1960s.
