Description
The Dassault Mirage III is a landmark of French aeronautical engineering. Produced from the early 1960s to equip units of the French Air Force (Armée de l’Air), it immediately proved to be extremely effective. It soon became a commercial success and was exported to numerous countries, taking part in several conflicts during the 1970s and 1980s. Characterized by its unmistakable delta wing, it was capable of exceeding Mach 2 thanks to its Snecma Atar engine with afterburner. The Mirage IIIC, in particular, was configured as a single-seat multirole interceptor fighter. Armed with two 30 mm DEFA cannons, it could carry a wide variety of offensive weapons, including infrared-guided air-to-air missiles such as the AIM-9 Sidewinder and the Matra Magic, as well as radar-guided missiles.
